Water Infrastructure ESIAs:
Enabling High Quality Reporting in Water Infrastructure Projects
Water resources and infrastructure projects have significant environmental and social implications. Integrating Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental Audit (EA) into project planning and implementation is essential for achieving sustainability, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering community acceptance.
This monthly refresher training is designed to build practitioners’ capacity by offering practical, context-specific insights into ESIA requirements for water-related projects in Kenya, with particular emphasis on strengthening the quality and effectiveness of ESIA reporting in water infrastructure.
Areas of Focus
Fundamental engineering design elements in water infrastructure (e.g., dams, water supply systems, boreholes)
Technical planning phases (pre-feasibility, feasibility, and detailed design)
Unpacking system components to support environmental assessment (e.g., intakes, weirs, transmission mains, environmental flows)
Applicable references, standards, and guidelines for ESIA in water infrastructure
