Student Membership
This membership category is intended for individuals who are currently pursuing academic studies in a recognized institution and are working towards a professional qualification in a relevant field. It provides students with the opportunity to engage with the Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK), gain exposure to professional practice, access networking opportunities, and participate in capacity-building programs that support their academic and career growth in the environmental sector.
- Be actively enrolled in a recognized course leading to an examined Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or an equivalent qualification.
- Be undertaking studies in a relevant discipline aligned to environmental management, sustainability, natural resources, climate change, or related fields.
- Provide proof of current student status from the recognized institution.
Associate Membership
Associate Membership is designed for individuals who are currently engaged in, or actively seeking to engage in, professional practice within the environmental field. This category recognizes practitioners who have attained relevant academic qualifications and are building practical experience in environmental management, sustainability, conservation, climate change, environmental assessment, or related disciplines. Associate Members demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and ethical practice, and are expected to contribute to the advancement of environmental standards and sustainable development. This membership category serves as a pathway toward higher professional recognition within the Institute as members gain additional experience and expertise.
- Currently engaged in or actively seeking professional practice in the environmental field.
- Higher National Diploma in a relevant subject having at least one-year relevant post qualification professional experience, or
- Diploma of not less than 1 year from a relevant subject from a recognized institution having at least two years relevant post qualification professional experience,
- Hold an Undergraduate Degree in a relevant subject from a recognized institution
Lead Membership
Applicants for Lead Membership must be currently engaged in or actively seeking professional practice in the management of the natural environment.
- An undergraduate degree in a relevant subject and a minimum of five years of relevant post qualification professional experience, or
- A Master’s degree in a relevant subject and at least three years relevant post qualification professional experience, or
- An academic PhD degree in a relevant subject and at least two years relevant post qualification professional experience.
Firms Membership
Firm’s membership is granted to firms that are engaged in environmental management activities.
- Have a certificate of registration of a business name or certificate of incorporation.
- ii. The firm has at least one individual duly registered as a Lead member of the EIK and who has a valid practicing certificate
- The firm fulfills any other condition as may be stipulated by the Institute.
Affiliate Membership
For those acquiring skills in the environment field with insufficient experience or qualification for higher levels.
- Satisfied the Institute that they have acquired or wish to acquire skills in the environment field.
Honorary Membership
For distinguished individuals with exemplary stewardship towards the environment.
- Shown exemplary stewardship towards the environment.
- Proven track record of consistently standing up for the environment in duties or lifetime.
- Otherwise not qualified for membership in other categories.
Fellow Membership
For distinguished individuals with extensive experience and stewardship in the environment field.
- Shown exemplary stewardship towards the environment.
- At least 15 years of professional experience in the environment field.
